A Basic Course in Statistical Data Analysis Using R
We are pleased to announce that we are offering a 3-day statistical training course
on May 4 - 6, 2016 in Vancouver, B.C., titled “ A Basic Course in Statistical Data
Analysis Using R”. The course is intended for novice R users who would like to
learn how to perform statistical data analyses in R or for intermediate R users who
would like to consolidate their understanding of how R operates. Both types of users
will benefit from the review of statistical concepts covered during the course.
The course will accommodate 18 participants and take place from 8:30am until 5:00pm
on May 4, 5 and 6, 2016 (Wednesday - Friday). Day 1 of the course will cover data
import/export, data summarization and data visualization with ggplot2. Day 2 of the
course will cover hypothesis testing, basic statistical analyses and automated
reporting. Day 3 of the course will cover data cleaning, data manipulation and basic
elements of R programming.
By the end of the course, participants will have a working knowledge of R. In
particular, participants will be able to:
1. Organize their R workflow;
2. Read data into R and export data from R using the rio package;
3. Clean up and massage data using the tidyr, dplyr and magrittr packages;
4. Work with dates using the lubridate package;
5. Create elegant and insightful data visualizations with the ggplot2 package;
6. Produce descriptive statistics (e.g., means, medians, standard deviations,
interquartile ranges, correlations);
7. Perform basic tests of hypotheses (e.g., t-test, chi-square test), interpret
their output and verify their assumptions;
8. Perform basic statistical analyses such as simple/multiple linear regression,
one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA),
interpret their output
and verify their assumptions;
9. Write R functions and scripts for performing repetitive tasks;
10. Produce simple automated reports which include tables, graphs and text using
the intuitive R markdown language.
The attendance fee for the course is $885.00 + $44.25 GST = $929.25 per participant
and includes a bound copy of the Course Notes, a CD-ROM containing all course
examples and exercises and 30 days of free course-related technical e-mail support
following the course. The attendance fee also includes morning and afternoon coffee,
tea and snacks. Groups of 3 or more participants from the same organization will
receive a 10% discount when they register.
The extended registration deadline for this course is April 25, 2016. Registration
forms can be downloaded from http://www.ghement.ca/Rform_May2016.html. Completed
registration forms can be returned to us by e-mail
