New Group Content: NSERC IPS program winding down‏

For many years, the NSERC Industrial Postgraduate Scholarship (NSERC IPS) program has supported graduate students who undertake research projects in partnership with industry sponsors. However, as directed in the federal government’s Economic Action Plan 2015, Mitacs’ Accelerate program (https://www.mitacs.ca/en/programs/accelerate/program-details) will become the primary delivery agent for federally supported graduate-level industrial research and development internships.

As a result, the NSERC IPS program is winding down and will not accept new award applications after August 31, 2015. For applications submitted before the August 31st deadline, the latest project start date that will be accepted by NSERC is December 1, 2015. Current NSERC IPS awards are not impacted and will continue to be funded until their end dates.

UBC departments and students should take these dates into account when preparing IPS applications. It will take at least one week from the time a complete application is received by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies until it is ready to be submitted to NSERC. Do not wait until the last minute to hand in your application! Please also remember that it can take up to two months for an application to be approved once received by NSERC.
