Bicycle June Social – Bioinformatics go biking!

Hi people,
For this month’s bioinformatics social, we’re gonna to bike to Deep Cove and then do one~all of the followings:
1. Eat donuts
2. Kayak and find jellyfish
3. Hike a little bit
4. Eat more
5. Chill in the sun

Estimated biking time from Olympic Village Dog Park to Deep Cover is about 1 hr, We expect to rest and do sightseeing on the way.
If you don’t use Facebook, checkout the Facebook event information copied/pasted at the end of this email.   If you don’t feel like biking all the way there, you can also transit to the location.

Join the Bike Co-op on a fun ride out to Deep Cove! We’ll be taking bike routes the majority of the way, and will be doing it in two groups: a fast group and a scenic group. No rider left behind, the scenic group will putter along as slow as needed.

Upon arrival, there are donuts to be eaten at Honey’s Donuts, and the option of kayaking or hiking if you’re feeling energetic.

More details:

Meeting: Sunday June 26th, 9:00am @ Olympic Village Square, by Terra Breads, corner of Athlete’s way and Manitoba. Leaving 9:15 sharp – get there earlier if you want to get coffee/snacks. If you’re running late or want to join the scenic group part way, text Tamara (778-926-5470)

Route: Ontario to Union/Adanac to Cassiar (all bike routes, good road quality), across a bridge to the north shore (bikes separated from cars with a barrier), then along Dollarton Hwy (two lane road with some but low traffic, good road quality). 18.5km one way. Approx 1 hour 15 minutes , with some hills (157 m up, 167 m down).

When we get there: We’ll figure out what everyone wants to do and disperse! Options: Donuts. Hiking. Kayaking. Minimum rental for kayaking is 2 hours: single is $39, doubles are $55 – if you want to kayak, reserve your own or reply here or we can coordinate doubles. There’s also paddleboarding and surfski if you have such skills.

Bring: Water, lunch and/or mulla, sunscreen, kayak and/or hike-able clothes, bus fare if you might want to bus back to Van.
