Competition Announcement: Tri-Agency/Affiliated Doctoral competitions ONLY‏

Hi all – Please see the information below and READ CAREFULLY. As you know there is a quota for graduate programs, so not everyone will have their application forwarded to UBC graduate studies. However, I encourage you to apply if you have a strong GPA and publication record.

The deadline for having your application materials into my office will be Friday, Sept 26th by the time the office closes here at 5:00 pm, if it is hard copy. Obviously, anything that can be emailed can be emailed until the end of the day.

If you have any questions, let me know. This is for Doctoral applications ONLY – MSc will follow later around November.

Thank you for your patience while we have waited for timeline confirmation from our external partners. Details for these competitions will be similar to last year, and we will notify graduate programs again when application and evaluation materials are available from G+PS. This announcement is primarily to establish the timeline for the upcoming doctoral competitions.

Deadline for nominations to be submitted by graduate programs to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies: Wednesday, 15 October, 2014

Please send the following to your students:

2015-2016 Tri-Agency/Affiliated doctoral competitions

CIHR Doctoral Applications:
Direct application to CIHR for 1 October, 2014 deadline; to be considered for the Affiliated Fellowships competition, applicants must submit an Affiliated Fellowship application to their graduate programs for consideration to be nominated to the university-wide competition.

UBC Affiliated Fellowships:
The doctoral Affiliated Fellowship competition runs in concert with the university-adjudicated Tri-Agency (NSERC, and SSHRC) Canada Graduate Scholarships competitions. Students who submit an NSERC or SSHRC Tri-Agency application to their graduate program are automatically considered for Affiliated Fellowship funding (without needing to submit a separate Affiliated Fellowships application package). Those applying only for Vanier or CIHR doctoral funding must submit a separate and complete Affiliated Fellowship application in order to be considered.

SSHRC and NSERC doctoral Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGSD):
Applicants applying through UBC will either be:

i) currently registered at (or were registered at during the year of application), or are on an approved leave of absence from, a degree program at UBC.

ii) not currently registered at UBC; or are registered, but not in a degree program; and have completed all of the requirements for a degree program from UBC since January 1 of this year
